Bowls for beginners
Lawn bowling teaching sessions will be announced here. Meanwhile, here's how to get started:
1. READ THE BOOK
Check out Bowls Canada's classic Lawn Bowler's Handbook. All you need to know in a 20-minute read, including how to deliver the bowl, etiquette and, yes, hand signals. Buy the latest edition of this excellent pocket-sized manual for $3.50 plus shipping from Bowls Canada.
2. WATCH THE VIDEOS
There are plenty of videos on YouTube made by bowlers all over the world demonstrating their particular technique. You'll soon see that there are a few different ways to hold and roll the bowl. Here's a good place to start:
- Bowls Canada technical video series:
Bowls Canada: The delivery
3. KNOW THE RULES
From the Beaconsfield Lawn Bowling Club, a great introduction to the rules and culture of lawn bowling from their web page Lawn Bowling Training Information
